About Metro Pavers, Inc.
Eastern Iowa Corridor Paving Company
Metro Pavers originated from Iowa City Ready Mix which began producing concrete in 1960. After 6 years of concrete production, Kenneth Albrecht and Wayne Kempf decided to take the next step and start a paving company. Metro Pavers Inc. was established on 6-6-66. Metro Pavers purchased a plant and concrete mixers and started performing work around the state of Iowa.
In the late 1980’s Metro Pavers was hired by Merit Construction to pave a parking lot for a Wal-Mart distribution facility in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. This lead to the construction of 21 Wal-Mart distribution center parking lots in 18 different states. Each distribution center averaged 200,000 to 300,000 square yards and took 2-3 months to complete. These projects had tight schedules and strict specifications making for challenging projects. Metro Pavers completed all work on time and according to the design.
Metro Pavers has always taken great pride in quality workmanship. Every winter the Iowa Concrete Paving Association holds an awards ceremony to recognize the excellence in design and construction of concrete paving projects from the around the state. Metro Pavers won its first award for excellence in 1974 for its work on the Burlington Road reconstruction project in downtown Iowa City. Since that first award Metro Pavers has won over 27 Awards for Excellence. In 1997 the project that Metro Pavers did on Hwy 6 and Hwy 965 by the new Coral Ridge Mall was also awarded a Silver place finish from the American Concrete Paving Association.
In 2002 Metro Pavers expanded to Cedar Rapids, Iowa by starting Metro Ready Mix and soon after Metro Transport was created.
